Odds and Ends

It's been a busy week, with lots to blog about.

I'll start with my trip to Cleveland. The second one in about four months. Thanks to priceline, we got another unreal deal on a hotel. $45.00! There are honestly few things as fun as pretending to be wealthy for a few days.

At one point Jordan and I were locked out of our rooms, and had to walk through this (The Cleveland Arcade) in our socks. Of all places to be trapped, this is probably one of the better ones.

We were in Cleveland for (another) Wilco show, which was actually at a high school. One of those massive American high schools where you can picture the lead cheerleader sucking face with the quarterback during the pep rally. And here I thought seeing Wilco in a university gym was strange. I've seen Wilco half a dozen times, but this was the first time in years that I've gone with Jordan, so it was great fun. We also went to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, which is just as exciting the second time, because you see so many things you didn't notice the first time around. They actually have fragments of Otis Reddings' airplane that he died on. And not just any pieces, but the pieces of the plane that had his name painted on it. It was remarkably eerie.

I came home from the pub on the Saturday night and checked my email, just to find out that one of my best friends had lost her Mom over the weekend. It wasn't unexpected, but it's still the kind of news that has the ability to floor you instantly. It always baffles me that while one person is having a great night out of town, another person is having one of the worst days of their lives.

The rest of the week was eventful. Full of freelancing and moving my things at work into an office. Life seems more permanent when you're in an office!

Thursday night was Amanda's Mom's wake, which was more of a celebration than anything else. And she seems to be holding up as well as can be expected. Thursday was also the night of the Blue Rodeo concert at Massey Hall. Jordan had bought me tickets for Christmas. Luckily, we made it into the city just in time. Blue Rodeo is just one of those bands that never seem to get old for me. And after hearing everyone rave about Massey Hall, and never making it there myself, I can finally understand what all the fuss is about. We had a great night, as Jordan and I always seem to do. I'm smitten.

This weekend was quite drug induced. I'm never taking Benadryl ever again. It's been a bad month for sickness. First, I had a cold. As soon as that was over, I got the toothache from Hell. And once that finally subsided, now I have a horrible cough and an earache. Whoa is me. Anyways, I feel like an awful girlfriend, because Jordan picked me up Friday night to have our third movie night, which have involved working through the Indiana Jones trilogy. I somehow missed those movies growing up! So, Friday night was the Last Crusade. Literally, the second we got to his place, I fell asleep. And no matter how much he poked me, prodded me, or tried to shake me awake, it just wasn't happening. So, he watched it alone. Sorry!

Last but not least, Jordan played a great show last night at the Casbah with a great band called Plants and Animals. It was a great night, full of drama and drinking, which are always the best kind of nights! Today I'm tidying/reading! I've had a bunch of books on hold at the library for months, and they all just happened to come available at the same time, so now I have three books to read in the next two weeks. It's a bit to ambitious I think, but I'm up for the challenge!
