A Tale of Two Cities

Ottawa
  • Afternoon walks around Parliament Hill (with a book, and minidisc player in hand)
  • Patio to patio in the Byward Market on perfect summer nights
  • Middle of the night (usually drunken) talks with Brittany
  • Open mic night at the Georgetown on Wednesdays (just close enough to stumble home)
  • A stroll through the Glebe (Brittons, the Papery, Octopus Books, Compact, The Glebe Emporium)
  • My adorable little house in Ottawa South (minus the bugs)
  • My early morning tea on the way to catch the #97 to go to work
  • Knowing just the right place to find the perfect caesar (Of course the Highlander first)
  • Barrymore's; Zaphod's; Minglewoods; The Highlander; Georgetown, among many others
  • Sinking into a seat at the Bytowne or Mayfair
  • Vittoria Trattoria when Jordan comes to town
  • The National Gallery only a twenty minute bus ride away (as well as Artguise, and my choice of dozens of other galleries and museums)
  • Eating fresh raspberries in the market in the summer
  • Coming home to cook a stir-fry or pasta with the array of inexpensive, but delicious vegetables I've picked up
  • Complete independence
  • Road trips to Montreal to see concerts
  • Skating on the canal, once I get over my fear of falling
  • Beavertails and an Earl Gray tea to warm up in the winter
  • Canada Day in the Capital (need I say more...)

Burlington

  • Jordan
  • My family (and my animals!)
  • Spending Thursday mornings with Evan
  • Days in Toronto (along the harbourfront, the Bloor Cinema)
  • Nights out with Jordan, seeing a great band, or indulging in a fancy dinner that neither of us should afford
  • Far more job opportunities (in surrounding cities)
  • Reading the Toronto Star is far more fulfilling than the Ottawa Citizen
  • More concert venues and far more acts rolling into town
  • My perfect night: Pepperwood's, Jordan, caesars, Paul Langille, and a heaping bowl of mussels in a white wine sauce
  • A car
  • Saving money
  • My friends, though few, who still live in the area
  • A new found love for Hamilton (The Casbah, the Art Gallery)

I'm running out of time.
