Toronto Life: Mortgage Slaves: "To stay afloat, new homeowners are forgoing vacations, putting off having kids and surviving on tuna sandwiches. They tell themselves it’ll all be worth it—if the Toronto real estate market doesn’t tank. By Rachel Giese"
I’ve been meaning to post this article for awhile now, especially in the midst of many of my friends buying houses and condos. Countless people tried to talk me into buying, begrudging renting altogether. Sure, financially, they have a point. But honestly, I’m not ready to settle down, yet. I see too much merit in signing a one-year lease, knowing I can leave town on a whim to join a circus, or take on a new identity thousands of miles away. Could I settle down? Sure! But it’s far more fun to imagine the possibilities.
