Ten Canadian bands are vying for one of the richest music prizes in the country, the $20,000 Polaris Music Prize, on Monday.
A winner will be announced at a gala event Monday night in Toronto.
The prize, inspired by the U.K.'s Mercury Prize for emerging talent, honours the best full-length Canadian album regardless of genre.
It was created by Steve Jordan, a music industry veteran, who wanted to pay tribute to the country's best album based on creative quality.
The finalists are:
- Neon Bible, Arcade Fire
- The Besnard Lakes Are the Dark Horse, the Besnard Lakes
- Gang of Losers, the Dears
- Woke Myself Up, Julie Doiron
- The Reminder, Feist
- So This Is Goodbye, Junior Boys
- Five Roses, Miracle Fortress
- Ashtray Rock, Joel Plaskett Emergency
- Skelliconnection, Chad VanGaalen
- Close To Paradise, Patrick Watson
