CBC.ca Arts - Al Gore wins Nobel Peace Prize

Woo Hoo! So, having President on your resume would be great, but honestly, Gore's chances of going down in history positively (let's face it, unless you're assassinated — and even still — every President is criticized by the history books.) is far greater as a Nobel Peace Prize (and Academy Award) winner. Good on ya' Gore!

U.S. vice-president Al Gore and a United Nations climate change panel have won the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize for their work to combat climate change.

The Norwegian Nobel committee announced the award Friday in Oslo, saying in a written statement that Gore and the UN Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change have worked tirelessly 'to disseminate greater knowledge about man-made climate change and lay the foundations for the measures that are needed to counteract such change.' Gore, 59, said he will donate his half of the $1.5-million US prize to the Alliance for Climate Protection, a non-profit organization devoted to conveying the urgency of solving the climate crisis.

'I am deeply honoured to receive the Nobel Peace Prize,' Gore said. 'We face a true planetary emergency. The climate crisis is not a political issue, it is a moral and spiritual challenge to all of humanity.'"
