When I was 14, I was enthralled with the American Film Institute's list of the top 100 movies of all time. Alright, maybe enthralled isn't the right word. I was obsessed. To the point that I wrote down the title of every one of those movies, and have been checking them off my list ever since.Somehow, since then, 10 years have passed, and now the American Film Institute has compiled a new list. A decent list, but I can't imagine compiling a list of the top movies and actually removing films like Rebel Without a Cause, The Jazz Singer, Giant or Guess Who's Coming to Dinner, and replacing them with Toy Story or The Shawshank Redemption (good films, but top 100?). Saving Private Ryan is a brilliant war-flick, but is it really better than All Quiet On The Western Front, which was made sans high-budget visual effects and actors with million dollar salaries? But then again, I'm no film-critic.
This does however lengthen my list, giving me an additional 16 films that I must cross off.
